CARIBBEAN VILLA RENTALS

When you plan a trip to the Caribbean, expect to encounter lots of talk about seasons: the season, the high season, the low season, the shoulder season and the hurricane season. The Caribbean's high season heats up right before Christmas and lasts through mid-April. During the holiday season, referred to as simply "the season," longtime guests often snatch up reservations for the best lodgings years in advance. At Christmastime, Jamaica's exclusive Round Hill once turned away James Bond — er, Pierce Brosnan. So, if you're going to a resort in Barbados or the British Virgin Islands around the holidays, be prepared to make your plans well in advance.

IN-SEASON ADVANTAGES

If you live in northern climes that are swept with wintry blizzards, nothing is more appealing in brutal February than visions of a white sandy beach, a brilliant sun and a palm tree-studded Caribbean island. Here the winter weather is considered as close to perfection as anywhere on the planet. The temperature rarely dips below 21 Celsius degrees. Plus, the cuisine at resorts is better than ever: top chefs from both Europe and America are brought in during the winter months to tempt your palates.

TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS

With the Caribbean's turquoise blue waters and Grace Bay's powder white sands as its backdrop, this private villa is a swanky beach hideaway where privacy and exclusivity prevail. Some of Providenciales’s best snorkeling is easily accessible, and a rum punch from the pool bar is never too far from reach. Mango Reef, one of the most popular beachfront restaurants in Grace Bay, serves delicacies straight from the sea, but the island itself offers the best nightcap: ocean views, best seen from your spacious terrace.
